John Camiel Fasseel, age 82, a long-time resident of East Detroit, MI, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 12, 2019 in the excellent care of Heart to Heart Hospice at Harbor Chase of Auburn Hills from complications of Dementia. John was the beloved husband of Patricia (Barber) Fasseel for more than 61 years; loving father of Edna Marie Taylor (Ron), Jeffrey Fasseel (Maribeth), Douglas Fasseel (Christine) & John Fasseel and proud grandfather of Michelle Madis, Mindy Steff, Marie Molinik, Jillian Freeland, Benjamin Fasseel, Joshua Fasseel, Troy Fasseel, Taylor Fasseel & Jack Fasseel and very proud great-grandfather of Nevaeh, Lailah, Bella, Ezra, Scott, Vera, Marcus, Harvey, Laurel & Kamil. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert O. Fasseel and Edna May (Dawson) Fasseel, and his sister Loretta Fasseel and brother, Albert Fasseel.
Born and raised in Detroit, MI, John joined the US Navy serving on the USS John W Thomason during the Korean War. John retired from the GM Tech Center in Warren, MI. John was an avid golfer, bowler, member of the VFW and enjoyed traveling with Pat to see their grandchildren that lived out of state.
There will be a Celebration of Life – Open House at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 1400 Orion Road, Lake Orion, MI 48362. Please come and visit with the family at your leisure between the hours of 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Monday, October 28, 2019. All family, friends, associates and care givers are welcome to attend.
John will be laid to rest at the Great Lakes National Cemetery located at 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442. He will receive full Military Honors at his ceremony starting at 2:00 pm sharp on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. If you plan on attending the service, please arrive 10 – 15 minutes prior and pull your vehicle into the line designated for John Fasseel – they will lead the entire line of vehicles to the designated ceremony shelter just prior to the scheduled service.
The family sends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Harbor Chase of Auburn Hills whose special kindness and compassion during his 27 months residency will long be remembered. We also want to thank the excellent staff at Heart to Heart Hospice for their grace and care in his final days.
